Masks
I believe that we often wear "masks" in everyday life. We wear a "mask" to hide the person we really are, for the fear of being rejected. I feel like the ancient cultures using actually masks was symbolic for everyone being accepted for who they are. If everyone wore an actual mask, we wouldn't all be so different, so instead, we conform to societies ideals and put on our "masks"

Mod 7
In our book, it says the four most important features of Andean worldview are collectivity, reciprocity, transformation, and essence.
It also said that cyclical thinking was key to the worldview.
I think this is very interesting. I don't believe that in modern day we have characteristics like this to describe our world view.

Module 3
I found the reading this week to be really interesting. I never knew about the conflict of the Mayans, the Zapatista rebels and the Mexican government. I think it's sad that such a beautiful culture faces so much conflict. When looking back through Mayan history, it's frustrating that they can't just 'live and let live' for such an interesting culture. In the article, I also found the end part, about Old Chan Kin really interesting and eery. Predicting that the world will end when the last Mayan dies, it's just a really strange prophecy. It seems that a lot of the "world ending" prophecies come from the Mayans.

Week 1
"Create a blog this week on your experience with Mexico or Guatemala, Belize, Honduras ...meaning have you been there? Are you from there? Whether you have or have not been there...give me three things that come to mind when you think about any of these countries and then explain why those things remind you of that particular place. "
I have yet to travel to any of the places listed above, but my parents have been to Belize and are going to Mexico in a few weeks. I would love to travel to Guatemala and Belize soon.
One thing that comes to mind when I think of these places is the abundant culture. My parents always talk about the festive music and clothing, and I just imagine these places being full of rich cultural events and festivities!
The second thing that comes to mind is the food. I've seen pictures of what my parents ate in Belize and the quantity and quality of the food was just above and beyond the food that you eat on a normal basis. The custom in Belize is to keep bringing food to the customer until they tell you they're full. My parents weren't aware of that, and they were shocked at how many courses kept coming.
The third thing I think of when I think of Mexico are the beaches. I have seen so many pictures of beautiful beaches of Mexico, and I really hope I get to travel to one of these countries soon!
